One thing that I think they have tried to do (which is a good idea, but hasn't been executed well) is have the villains drive the narrative. Outside of Korra learning airbending and about the spirit world, she really hasn't had the personal growth that those two did in their stories. ATLA was as much about Zuko's growth as it was Aang's.

Right now, I don't see that happening.I agree. Even if their main plots are very interesting (which they are, even if they're badly executed), this show will never reach the heights of ATLA without their level of characters. Korra is a fairly uninteresting character, I have no idea how I'm supposed to feel about Asami, Bo-Lin is a horrible Sokka rip off without Sokka's underrated intellect, Mako has no discernible personality (they're just trying to make him moody, essentially this series' Zuko and failing miserably), they haven't done nearly enough with the "Aang was a bad father" story which has a lot of potential for character development, and they've shamefully underused Lin who is really the only consistently interesting character on the show. You need to have a character as strong and fully developed as Zuko to make a show like this work, and right now, they don't. The Appa going missing story, and other things like that (Azula's growing madness being another), are just icing on the cake. ATLA always had his story coexisting both within and besides Aang's, and so far, LOK hasn't found a parallel story to add emotional weight like Zuko's did for Aang. The story went as he went, just character development at its finest. That whole story line was heart wrenching! The heart of ATLA was Zuko. Haven't got an Appa missing moment in Korra. Now I don't know what would set it off, especially given how much the plot has revolved around the water tribe in the first two seasons.Īlso, a lot of the plot is going to center around how the world re-establishes itself given that the harmonic convergence is over and Korra has decided to do things in an entirely different way than Wan did 10,000 years ago. The airbender/earthbender war that I mentioned would fit right into their wheelhouse. They've adopted the airbender culture but aren't themselves airbenders.I think a return to what the writers did best would be great for the show.

They've adopted the airbender culture but aren't themselves airbenders.īy the way, the airbenders are air acolytes. If Korra can beat the dark avatar, who can't she beat?īy the way, the airbenders are air acolytes. I just don't see what they could do with this season that would escalate things. Legend of Korra found an enemy in Amon that was even more dangerous than the Fire Nation, and then found another in Unalaq/Vaatu that was more dangerous than anyone else they'd fought (though to be fair, Korra easily could've just not entered the spirit world and everything would've been fine.
#Watch avatar korra season 3 series#
Season 1 of the original series was typically about fighting Zuko, then Azula, then Ozai. How is anything she faces now supposed to compare? I like how they've always escalated things with this series. It's not that last season was particularly good, it wasn't, but Korra literally fought against the embodiment of all evil and won (through nothing but convoluted plot devices and bad writing, but still). The trailer is really exciting, but I just wonder how they can possibly raise the stakes from last season.
